Spring Cleaning for Your Sex Life
Get ready for Spring with some tips from the experts!
Cuffing season is over, and Spring has finally officially sprung, which means it’s time for spring cleaning. Spring is a time to clean out, revamp old ideas, explore new possibilities and venture outside our comfort zones. Just as our homes need some freshening, so do our sex lives.
Whether you're single or in a relationship, Spring is the perfect time to take inventory of your sex life and honestly think about what’s working and what’s not. So while you're getting prepared to spring clean in the next few weeks, we want to suggest that you save some of it for your sex life with a few tips from the experts at Lion’s Den.
Know your status
Whether you’re in a relationship or single, it’s always important to know your HIV/Aids and STI status so you can enjoy a better relationship and sex life. As long as you're sexually active, you should get tested at least once a year, and getting tested every spring is a good habit to cultivate. Sexual health is important whether you have been together for a few months or even a few years because sometimes symptoms are not present, and you can be passing an infection back and forth. Plus, getting tested is an important measure to take in a relationship and can be something you do together to take care of each other.
Get groomed
Caring for your vulva is quite simple. While there are a number of products on the market geared towards keeping it “fresh” and “scented,” vulvas require only warm water to clean. Shaving is an easy and convenient option to refresh the area if you prefer to keep things trimmed down below. Before you shave, you need to exfoliate to avoid bumps. First, use an exfoliant that is not too rough with a washcloth to remove any dead skin from the area. Next, use shaving cream and a good, clean razor. Always shave with the hair growth so you don’t irritate the skin. Once you’ve finished shaving, rinse off all the excess and then pat dry.
We recommend Coochy shave creams to get a clean, smooth shave that leaves your skin nourished. Coochy products are also excellent for maintaining soft, healthy body hair, so if you prefer to have your pubic hair grow, you can feel confident in the silky texture.
Clean out your toy box
Are you holding expired condoms hostage? Dried out lubricants? Old sex toys you no longer use? A spring cleaning session is a perfect time to inspect each of your toys and see if they need to be replaced. Pay special attention to integrity issues like broken water seals, frayed cords, cracks, pockmarks, or areas where the toy's surface is peeling. Now is the perfect time to let go of anything that’s just not working for you and treat yourself to some fun new things you’re genuinely excited about using. Sometimes something simple like trying a new toy for the first time can really heat things up.
Try a new sex position
While you’re trying something new, consider spicing things up with a new position. For example, if you’re always doing it doggy, why not change it up with reverse cowgirl one time? Having sex in different locations is a great way to revive your sex life, too. Whether it’s scheduling a sexy shower together or getting it on at the kitchen table (make sure you clean it before and after!), a change of sex scenery will do your love life and relationship the world of good. So the next time you make love, try out a new idea. Who knows, you might like it well enough to add it to your repertoire.
Editor’s Note: Our friends at Kinkly have an extensive library of sex positions. Check them out here.
Get new lingerie
If it’s ill-fitting, torn, or the colors are wrong, throw it out! Your local Lion’s Den has an extensive lingerie collection for any size and any occasion. It is a new season, so consider trying something new like a different style or fabric, or maybe you want to try out a costume for feisty role play. If you can’t make it in-store, you shop online, too.
No matter how you choose to spring clean your sex life, be sure to use this change in season as a way to increase your pleasure, connect more with your partner, or try something new.
